The Barack Obama Presidential Center[1] is the planned presidential library and museum of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States to be located on the South Side of Chicago, IL. Once completed, it will become the 14th site in the National Archives and Records Administration's presidential library system.[2] The center will be constructed at the behest of nonprofit Barack H. Obama Foundation, which was officially set up for this purpose. The foundation board consists of: Marty Nesbitt, a close friend from Chicago; J. Kevin Poorman, president and CEO of PSP Capital Partners; David Plouffe; Obama's half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng; venture capital financier, John Doerr; Studio Museum in Harlem head, Thelma Golden; and fundraiser and former White House staffer, Juliana Smoot.[3][4]

The foundation was formally incorporated on January 29, 2014,[5] and several organizations, including Columbia University, the University of Hawaii, the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago submitted proposals for the honor of hosting the institution. [6] [7]

On May 12, 2015, it was announced by the Barack Obama Foundation and Mayor Rahm Emanuel that the Obama Center, as well as the Foundation, will be located in Chicago, Illinois and associated with the University of Chicago. A site for the Center within the city is yet to be chosen. The decision is between Jackson Park and Washington Park, both located on Chicago's South Side.
